Make the Canada Child Benefit Inclusive

Ending gender discrimination in how families access child benefits.

1 ask amend the Income Tax Act

The way the Canada Child Benefit is administered can leave single fathers and shared-parenting families behind. We're advocating to make the program gender-equal and inclusive of every parent raising a child.

The problem

Provisions in the Income Tax Act and benefit administration can default to one parent — often disadvantaging fathers with custody or shared parenting. Children lose out when a parent who is doing the caregiving can't access the support intended for them.

Our position

Benefits should follow the child and reflect real caregiving arrangements, without gendered assumptions. We're calling for clear, equal rules so every eligible parent — mother or father — can access the Canada Child Benefit.
